KYTC engineers working to replace guardrail on KY 1954/Husbands Rd.

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

Engineers with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet are alerting the public to a traffic issue on KY 1954/Husbands Road at the Clark Line Road intersection in McCracken County.

They say this is about 1 mile south of the Interstate 24 Exit 11 interchange in Paducah.

According to KYTC, two recent crashes at the site knocked out a significant section of guardrail where KY 1954/Husbands Road crosses the Paducah Floodwall. The impact uprooted guardrail posts along the right of way preventing new guardrail from being installed.

While engineers look for a solution to the issue, they say a message board will help remind drivers to use caution at the intersection and curve.

In addition to the immediate issue of reinstalling guardrail, engineers are looking at some long-term solutions to crashes in the location. A hump where the road crosses the floodwall, a curve and the Clark Line Road intersection already have a 10 mile per hour advisory speed for Husbands Road traffic.

Engineers say they are looking into possible funding through the Highway Safety Improvement Program. However, any new construction or realignment of the road in the area will likely be complicated by the presence of the floodwall and a nearby natural gas pipeline.

Until the guardrail can be replaced, drivers are urged to take note of the temporary message board and use caution in the area.
