An East Prairie man faces drug distribution charges following a narcotics investigation by the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department

According to Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore, the investigation began on Friday evening after Justin Lee Christian, 33, was booked into the Mississippi County Detention Center to serve a weekend commitment.

Shortly after Christian’s arrival, Corrections Officer Chris Wooten reportedly developed suspicion that the inmate had brought contraband into the facility.

At that time, Wooten contacted Jail Administrator Cory Hutcheson, who then responded to the facility to investigate the report.

Hutcheson was met upon his arrival by Deputy Mike Borders, and the pair then interviewed an inmate who reportedly received narcotics from Christian.

The deputies seized the narcotics, identified as a generic form of Xanax, and placed the pills into evidence.

At that time, Hutcheson and Deputy Mike Borders conducted a recorded interview with Christian.

The interview, according to the deputy’s report, led to the development of probable cause to believe Christian had snuck narcotics into the Mississippi County Detention Center and then shared them with other inmates.

Christian is charged with distribution of a controlled substance near government housing.

Christian was charged with the aforementioned crime because the Mississippi County Detention Center is located on or within 1,000 feet of public housing and other government subsidized property.

Christian's bond was set at $100,000.
