A Mt. Vernon sex offender has been arrested and and taken into custody and is facing charges related to methamphetamine production.

On Saturday, officers from the Mt. Vernon Police Department went to the 1302 Wescott to conduct a compliance check on William Flanders.

Flanders is a registered sex offender, so officers routinely check to verify all sex offenders in Mt. Vernon are in compliance with the terms of their sex offender registrations.

While at the home, officers made observations indicating methamphetamine was being produced there.

After further investigation officers located items used in the making of methamphetamine inside the home.

A child inside the home was taken into protective custody and transported to a local hospital for a check up.

Flanders was taken into custody on charges of possession of drug equipment, possession of methamphetamine, child endangerment, possession of methamphetamine manufacturing chemicals, possession of methamphetamine materials, unlawful disposal of methamphetamine waste, and participation in methamphetamine production.

The investigation continues and additional charges are possible.
