WEST FRANKFORT, IL (KFVS) -

One person is in the hospital and another is in police custody after a stabbing in West Frankfort, Illinois that happened at around 9:40 p.m. Sunday.

Officers made contact with a woman, who told officers that she had received multiple text messages of a threatening nature from a second woman.

This woman subsequently arrived at the reporting party’s home, and a verbal argument ensued.

Through the course of this argument, two men with weapons began to argue as well.

Witnesses at a gas station say they saw victim buy cigarettes at a gas station convenience store before the events happened.

They then say he walked out and came back several minutes later, bleeding heavily and yelling for help.

“We were sitting over here where the crates are," cashier Alyssa Virden said. "His girlfriend was riding on the side of the truck, and she’d jumped off of it to run towards us, basically started screaming that he needed to be helped and everything else.".

Virden and a co-worker jumped into action to help.

“My co-worker was gonna go get towels to try to cover up the wound to try to get it to stop bleeding so fast,” Virden said. “His girlfriend was freaking out because she was having to hold the pressure on the wound, and there was a lot of people outside."

The man was taken to Herrin Hospital and later transported to Barnes Hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police have not released the name of the victim.

Investigators also say they have taken a man into custody as a suspect in the incident.
