Woman admits to lying about being raped in a Paducah park

Paducah police have determined that a young Wickliffe, Ky., woman lied when she said a man raped her Friday afternoon in Paducah’s Noble Park.

Baptist Health Paducah security officers called police at 6:40 p.m. Friday when the woman came to the hospital at the insistence of her mother and fiancé.

She asked that police not be called, but security officers notified police, as is required by law.

Det. Sgt. Anthony Copeland said investigators became suspicious of the woman’s story.

He said the woman told them she was walking at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the area of the disc golf course in the rear corner of Noble Park when she was raped by an unknown white man.

The disc golf course in located in Stewart Nelson Park.

Upon further questioning, the woman admitted she had made the story up.

She said she was not in Noble Park on Friday, and was somewhat familiar with the disc golf course because she was there with friends several years ago.

Apparently she had intended to tell only her mother and her fiancé, but the lie snow-balled when they insisted she go to the hospital.

Her story also has been posted on social media, spreading fear of a rapist in the park.

The young woman has not been charged, pending consultation with the McCracken County Attorney’s Office.
