Part of Washington St. in Carbondale remains blocked due to gas leak

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

As of 10 p.m., Carbondale police still have part of Washington Street blocked off near Southern Illinois University in Carbondale due to a gas leak.

Washington Street near the SIUC police station is blocked off.

Ameren is on the scene and the street is being blocked by their vehicles.

There's a heavy smell of gas in the area.

Firefighters ask drivers in the area to find an alternative route.

Police and fire crews have left the scene.
