IL woman arrested, facing identity theft charges

BENTON, IL (KFVS) -

The Benton Police Department arrested a woman Thursday on charges of identity theft.

Officials received a report from an identity theft victim in May that over eight credit accounts were opened and used under their name and social security number without their knowledge.

Through the investigation, The Benton Police Department obtained a suspect, Cynthia Diane South, 54, of Benton, who was subsequently found to be involved with the identity theft.

Numerous items ordered under the fraudulent accounts were recovered during the investigation.

South is charged with identity theft.

She is currently incarcerated at the Franklin County Jail awaiting $20,000.00 bond.
