KY man arrested for fraudulently attempting to obtain drugs

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

A McCracken County man was arrested after he allegedly illegally obtained a schedule IV drug.

The Paducah Police Department says Jeffrey Adams, 48, had a prescription for Clonazepam filled at one Paducah pharmacy on one day, then had a second prescription for the same medication filled at a second pharmacy the next day.

Both prescriptions allegedly were issued by the same physician.

Adams told officials that his medication was stolen shortly after he picked it up the first day, so he called his physician for a second prescription.

Adams claimed that the physician had called in the second prescription to a different pharmacy.

Officials spoke with the physician, who said the first prescription was valid, but that the second prescription was not called in or authorized by anyone in his office.

A McCracken County grand jury indicted Adams on a charge of attempting to or obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or forgery.

Adams was arrested by a McCracken County sheriff’s deputy when he appeared in court Wednesday, and booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.
