Bucket truck fire strands 3 men working on a roof in Fruitland

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -

Workers at a Missouri Department of Transportation building were left stranded on a shed roof Tuesday night in Fruitland after their bucket truck caught on fire.

It happened at the MoDOT facility on Highway Y off of U.S. 61 just after 9:30 p.m.

According to Assistant Chief Randy Davis with the Jackson Fire Department, three men had to be rescued because a hydraulic hose on the bucket truck the men were using broke and the hydraulic oil caught on fire.

This left the men who were making repairs on the rooftop without a way to get down, so one of the workers called 911 on their cellphone.

During that call, Davis says the workers told dispatchers that smoke from the fire was getting thick.

When firefighters arrived, the flames and smoke were already snuffed out.

They quickly got the stranded men off of the roof.

No one was hurt.
