2 Vietnam veterans, buddies reunited after 48 years

(KFVS) -

Two Vietnam veterans have a lot of catching up to do.

After 48 years without any contact, the two were reunited for a surprise neither will soon forget.

David Wilson took to the internet in hopes of finding out where his best friend was, following the war. What he found out was that his buddy had been looking for him, too.

David Wilson soon discovered that his best friend from war had been in search of him all along.

"My heart dropped," he said. "I wasn't expecting something like that to be posted."

David Wilson and Alex Pavloff served as combat engineers in Vietnam for a year, forming a bond Wilson said he would never forget.

"You bond with people, that is someone who's got your back," he said.

The two reconnected by phone and e-mail, but it would be Wilson's wife who would bring the two together for Wilson's 70th birthday party.

"It just fell into place and worked out so great," she said. "That was they only part of the birthday that I could actually surprise him with."

"She opened the door and said, 'these people want directions,' and that was my buddy," Wilson said.

Immediately giving each other a hug while wiping tears from their cheeks, Wilson said it was a birthday present better than anything he received during the other 69 years of his life.

"That was awesome," he said. "Can't explain it, ya know? You lose somebody for 48 years, what do you do?"

The two plan to spend the next 70 years catching up.

"Thank God, because he was my best friend in the Army."

Pavloff currently lives in Indiana with his wife.

He told Wilson that before they found each other, he called every Wilson in the state of Missouri looking for him.

The two hope this story reunites them with more of their friends from war.
