A hostage situation that lasted several hours at the Miner, Missouri Super 8 Hotel is now over.

Police say the initial call came around 5:30 p.m., reporting a man acting suspicious at the McDonald's next door to the hotel. They say the man might have passed counterfeit money at the fast-food restaurant.

Police tracked the suspect to a room in the nearby Super 8.

When an officer knocked on the door, a woman answered. The officer reports a man held a knife to the woman's throat, and slammed the door closed, saying he would kill the woman.

Police evacuated the hotel.

According to Miner Police Chief Chris Griggs the Sikeston DPS Hostage Negotiation Team and SWAT Team began trying to talk the suspect into letting the woman go free, and to turn himself in peacefully.

The teams were able to communicate with the suspect through his cell phone and the hotel phones.

At around 11 p.m. police broke into the room, taking the suspect, Gary Corder, Jr., into custody. Corder was taken away by ambulance to be treated for injuries he sustained during his arrest.

Police say he had a warrant out of Scott County and Miner police are working on felony charges. His bond was set at $10,000 cash only.

The woman was being questioned by police. The relationship between the suspect and the woman was unknown at the time of the arrest.

Miner police, Sikeston DPS, a negotiating team with the SWAT team, Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Scott County Sheriff's Department were all on scene.
