POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -

Renovations to the entire Poplar Bluff School District won't be stopping when students head back to school.

Superintendent Chris Hon says construction can't stop if they hope to meet the scheduled completion date of Fall 2016.

Right now, crews are spending a lot of time at the current 5th and 6th grade center. That is where a 134,00-square-foot addition is being added to the facility.

Once the addition is completed, the high school will be relocated there and the 5th and 6th graders will move to the current high school.

According to the district, this was the most cost effective way to address overcrowding. The 80 acres where the current 5th and 6th grade center sits are already owned by the taxpayers.

Because of construction, registration for 5th and 6th graders will be moved to the central office.

Construction crews must still create a road to connect the parking lots around the building. Hon said that will be completed before students head back to school on Aug. 13.

Pick-up and drop-off at the center will be impacted by the renovations throughout the year.

The street that goes from Oak Grove Road to the school will essentially become a one way road down to Highway 60.

Hon encourages everyone to use caution in the area.
