Vigil held to remember 8-year-old Ballard Co. Girl

Dozens of people from the Ballard County, Kentucky community met Sunday to remember the life of 8-year-old girl found dead near a pond last Thursday.

Skyleigh Pool, 8, was last seen at her home near LaCenter, Ky. on the evening of Wednesday July 29.

A candlelight vigil took place at the Morrow Funeral Chapel in LaCenter Sunday. More than 50 people met to light candles and say prayers to remember the young girl. The community lit eight lanterns, one for each year Skyleigh lived, and sent them into the sky.

The girl's grandmother Brenda Pool said the family is trying to stand strong together.

“I still feel like I’m in a dream and that I’m gonna wake up," Pool said. “I loved that baby so much. One of the most special children I’ve ever had the honor of getting to know and being around and love.”

Dozens of volunteers and law enforcement worked to search for the girl for 15 hours after she went missing. She was found dead at a pond near her Ballard County home.

Police believe Skyleigh wondered off. No foul play is suspected.

Visitation begins at the Morrow Chapel Funeral home at 10 a.m. Monday and is open to the public. The funeral begins at 1 p.m.
