Royalton man's death inconclusive, no foul play suspected

ROYALTON, IL (KFVS) -

An autopsy of a deceased Royalton man did not reveal the cause of death, but has ruled out foul play, according to the coroner.

Franklin County officials continue to investigate the death of Michael L. Brayfield, 44, after an autopsy on Wednesday proved to be inconclusive.

Franklin County Coroner Marty Leffler says the cause and manner of death are pending toxicology testing, with results expected in four to six weeks.

According to Leffler, Brayfield’s son went to check on his dad at his Royalton home around 12:45 p.m. Sunday and found him unresponsive.

The boy called 911.

When authorities arrived on scene they found Brayfield deceased.

Illinois State Police crime scene investigators, Franklin County Sheriff's Department investigators, and the Franklin County Coroner were called in.

At the time of the discovery, Leffler said the death was being investigated as suspicious.

He also said there were no obvious signs of cause of death.
