MALDEN, MO (KFVS) -

More than one hundred gathered at Martin Luther King Jr park in Malden on Sunday in the name of non-violence

There was school supply give-away, face-painting, and some food for those who went.

Attendees included a couple of officers with Malden police who stopped by for a game of kickball.

One of the sparks of the event was a fatal shooting that happened back in early August of 2015.

Malden Native Detavian Richardson left behind an infant son who is now cared for by his mother and family.

That’s according to Richardson’s mother Renetha, who was at the event on Sunday.

“The impact on the families and everything…I mean you wouldn’t think too much of it until it happens to you.” Renetha explained.

People who went said there were a number of different groups represented who each suffered at the hand of a violent crime.
