The 135th annual 'Fancy Farm Picnic' had one small town in Kentucky bursting at the seams on Saturday with political figures and supporters alike.

Organizers say the town has around 500 permanent residents, but hosted nearly 10,000 visitors.

Around its 100th birthday, the event hit the Guinness book of world records for the world’s ‘largest picnic.’

Nearly two-dozen Kentucky politicians and campaigners took the podium on Saturday, including U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, current Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear, and the current candidates for upcoming gubernatorial election.

“it’s huge to bring recognition to our community… to Graves County… to Fancy Farm…” explained county resident Lance Gregory, “economically, it’s great to raise money for the church here and really put Fancy Farm on the map with all of the candidates who speak.”

Organizers say the Picnic raises between $200-thousand and $250-thousand for local St Jerome’s Church, which maintains the grounds year round and helps organize the event.
