CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

Approximately 2,000 Southern Illinoisans came out to the Eurma C. Hayes Center in Carbondale on Saturday to get supplies for school.

The event's theme, Hate Won't Win, is to show the community and neighboring areas 'the importance of togetherness and helping bring change to the area despite differing misfortunes and hardships that have been reoccurring in the world we live in'.

Children and adults formed a long line stretching throughout areas in the building and overflowing outside.

Children were given many items for school including back packs, paper, pens, and much more.

Also on hand was other information and services parents and children can obtain, including getting haircuts, fingerprints taken for identification purposes, free dental services and more.

Parents say it's great to have these supplies available free of charge for their children.

The Back to School Bash was presented by Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, The Women's Center, Eurma C. Hayes, and African American Museum.
