SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

The Sikeston Sizzler Special Olympics Tennis Team was out Saturday in the heat to raise funds for their trip to St. Louis.

Joined by Sikeston DPS, team members grabbed their sponges and washed cars at Carnell's Collision in Sikeston for hours earning donations they received.

Sizzler Head Coach Tim Gardner says its great to see so many people come out to help support these athletes.

Athletes say it's great to be able to be out there and play tennis but also to be out there for their community as well.

"We show our community that people with Down syndrome can still be out there in the community and do stuff like other normal people can do," athlete Kayla Dannenmueller says.

The Sizzlers next tournament is August 10 in St. Louis, and they are also preparing for the state tournament in September.
