KY driver dies in US 45 crash

A Mayfield, Kentucky man is dead after a crash on U.S. 45.

According to police, at about 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 31, a trooper saw a 2003 Buick Rendezvous speeding on northbound U.S. 45.

When he saw the trooper, the driver allegedly turned abruptly in traffic across both southbound lanes, nearly colliding with a southbound vehicle, before entering West Vaughn Road.

Police say the driver sped up again before becoming airborne prior to the intersection of West Vaughn Road and Chapman Road.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, left the north side of the road and hit a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Graves County Coroner Philip McClain.

The driver was later identified as 35-year-old Joe L. Moore.

At the time of the crash, police say Moore's Kentucky driver's license was suspended for multiple reasons.

They say the preliminary factors that caused the crash were excessive speed and not under proper control. Police say the driver was also not wearing a seat belt.

The Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by the Graves County Sheriff's Office, Graves County Coroner's Office, Graves County Fire and Rescue, Mayfield-Graves County EMS, Mayfield Fire Department and Viola Fire Department.

The investigation is ongoing by a reconstruction team.
