Facebook users send help to Kennett, MO man

A man staying in a Kennett, Mo. home has been without electricity and water since July 14, and by no fault of his own.

He reached out on Facebook for help, and he said he was surprised with the response he got.

Timothy Meding said he needed water, so he decided to put a post on a Kennett Facebook group asking for help once he realized there was a heat advisory for the area.

“I saw what they was calling for with temperatures I had to do something," he said.

So that’s when he posted the message on Facebook about 5:30 a.m. He said soon after, support starting pouring in.

“About 630 people started showing up and I probably ended up with 30 gallons of water,” he said.

The respond on his post was so strong, one woman paid for his two-night stay in an area hotel.

Meding said when he realized everything strangers had done for him, it made him emotional.

“I layed in here last night and about came to tears," Meding said. "Just because that so many strangers, the way things are nowadays, to just step up and help somebody."

Kymber Tyler was one of the Facebook users who helped Meding. She said when she saw the post she knew she had to help.

“Honestly, the lord put it on my heart heavy top help him and I'm glad I did, it wasn’t much but it's what I could,” she said.

As for now, Meding said he isn’t sure what’s in store for him next.

“I don’t know, you got a quarter we’ll flip a coin. I really don’t know at this point,” he said.

Meding said he has to leave the hotel room on Friday morning, and is currently trying to find somewhere to live until he gets paid at the beginning of the month.
