MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

An Illinois man was arrested on Tuesday evening after a traffic stop by the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department.

Kenny Wayne Simelton, 52, of Cairo, Ill., was charged with driving while revoked/suspended and driving while intoxicated. He was also cited for failure to drive on the right half of the road and drinking an alcoholic beverage while operating a motor vehicle.

According to Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore, the traffic stop was late on Tuesday after a deputy saw a vehicle driving erratically on Interstate 57. He pulled the car over near the Cairo Bridge and identified the driver as Simelton.

During the stop, the deputy learned Simelton did not have a valid driver's license and believed he was under the influence of alcohol.

Simelton participated in standard field sobriety tests.

He was then arrested and taken to the Mississippi County Detention Center.

Deputies say Simelton was released from custody on Thursday after posting a $1,500 surety bond.
