Police warn of scam on Facebook

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Be careful the next time you're on Facebook.

The Paducah Police Department says they've received a new report of a scam on the social media website.

A man reported the scam after he received a message from a friend on Facebook.

That message told him about money he could get through the "Federal Govt & Private Grants Poverty Eradication Foundation."

The man said he contacted the foundation, which told him they were connected to unclaimed lottery money and he would have to pay "case file and IRS tax" fees in order to get the money.

But the more he would pay, the more money he would get.

"Please remember that emails and messages of this type are scams, and don't fall victim to them," said the Paducah Police Department.

If you receive a message like this, delete it right away.
