10th Annual Redneck Fishing Tournament delayed

Organizers for the 10th Annual Redneck Fishing Tournament in Mason County have announced that they will temporarily delay the event due to high water and flooding along the Illinois River. The tournament remains on with the tournament itself and associated festivities rescheduled for Sept. 5 through Sept. 7, Labor Day weekend.

"Mother Nature has provided more water than we can handle and it doesn't appear to be going down fast enough to not postpone the event. But the tournament is still on, just delayed a bit." Betty DeFord said, who started the tournament a decade ago as a community protest against the invasive Asian Carp that have taken over the nearby stretch of the Illinois River.

Saturday, Sept. 5 will have nearly all the bands and activities that were scheduled for Friday, Aug. 7. The second day of fishing and other activities will be Sunday, Sept. 6 and free fishing for kids on Monday, Sept. 7.

Additional information and schedules can be found at the tournament website.
