Liquor sales vote passes in Marshall Co., KY

Liquor sales was the hot topic on Tuesday, July 28 in Marshall County, Kentucky.

A small election was held on Tuesday.

The question on the ballot: "Are you in favor of the sale of alcoholic beverages in Marshall County?"

With an overwhelming turnout, it passed with 6,431 "yes" votes and 6,229 "no" votes.

Before, you couldn't go there and buy alcohol in convenience or grocery stores. Your only option in the county was to buy liquor by the drink in certain restaurants.

One resident said no matter what happened, the community needed to stick together.

"I'm a firm believer that if your community isn't moving forward, it's dying, so we have to move forward," said Randy Newcomb. "Being at odds, it's a controversial topic. It's a hot button issue and I'm hoping no matter what the outcome tomorrow, we'll remember that we are neighbors and friends and we will go on. I don't think that will be a problem."

The polls closed at 6 p.m.
