SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

After an investigation into possible thefts at a trucking company, the Sikeston Department of Public Safety arrested three people for stealing a trailer full of cargo.

Sikeston DPS reports it conducted a surveillance detail with the Missouri State Highway Patrol over the weekend of July 25 after an anonymous tip of possible thefts at the trucking company.

Around 4 a.m. on Sunday, officers witnessed a semi-tractor pull onto the lot of the trucking company with another car following behind.

Sikeston DPS reports officers say three people got out and hooked a trailer containing $70,000 worth of toilet paper inside to the semi-tractor.

Several minutes later the three people reportedly pulled out of the lot with the stolen trailer.

Sikeston DPS reports officers from the surveillance detail pulled both the semi-tractor and the following vehicle over for a traffic stop.

Investigators later determined that the semi-tractor was stolen the same night from a trucking company in Memphis, Tenn.

Sikeston DPS reports three Memphis men were charged in connection to the thefts.

Jimmie Smith, 51, was charged with a class B felony for stealing more than $25,000 and a class C felony for tampering with a motor vehicle.

Markel A. Eskridge, 42, and Eugene Pickens, 36, of Memphis, were both charged with a class B felony for stealing more than $25,000.

All three people were given a $15,000 cash only bond and are awaiting their arraignment.

Sikeston DPS is still investigating the incident to see if the men could be a part of any other thefts in the area.
