Urban Kids Project handing out school supplies in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Kids don't want to hear it, but school is right around the corner. Parents don't want to hear it, but so are the high costs of getting your children ready for school.

For those who can't afford all the pencils, rulers, and markers, the Urban Kids Project is here to help. On August 3, needy families can pick up school supplies from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Shawnee Park Center.

Robert Harris, founder of the Cape Girardeau Community Gardens, started the Urban Kids Project with his mother four years ago.

That first year they handed out supplies to seven children. Since then the effort has blossomed, including more than 200 kids last year.

The supplies are available to children aged 6-12.

Call Robert Harris for more information at 573-334-3941.
