Flood water receding at Marquand campground

MARQUAND, MO (KFVS) -

Campgrounds in the Heartland were feeling the bad effects of the flooding season, but one campground in Marquand is relieved to finally get back to normal business.

Just last month, River Ranch Campground was much higher land it is right now. The water has receded and campers are starting to get back to what they love.

“It always a great day at the river, that’s what we always say it’s never a bad day at the river," camper Joyce Baker said.

She said she is happy the flood water has gone down and the river is back to the way it’s supposed to be.

“It’s fabulous, it’s always is!," she said. "When the river gets angry, it doesn’t take long for her to get over her fit and get back down to where she usually is.”

Owner Jon Hunink had to rebuild the road to his home that high waters washed it away.

Despite that, Hunink said business is good.

“It’s been a really good summer," he said. "After the flooding it’s been pretty calm, so for the most part it has subsided.”

Even though the water still being a little high, visitors are using it to their advantage.

“The waters are a little higher than average for this time of year, but that’s good for floating, canoeing, kayaking," Hunink said.

But through it all he says he looking towards the future.

“Hopefully next year we’ll have a better go of it," he said.
