Car crashes through front of 'Burger Nook' in Herrin

HERRIN, IL (KFVS) -

A Herrin burger joint is closed for the week after a car crashed through their front wall on Sunday morning

Burger Nook owner Marilyn Phillips in Herrin says the Sunday morning rush was interrupted when an elderly woman’s Cadillac burst through the wall.

Phillips says the driver claimed the accelerator was stuck, which caused her to lose control, ending up in the dining room of the restaurant on IL-148 in Herrin.

Philips says two of the front windows were crushed, and there was glass all over the restaurant, but no one was hurt. Phillips recalled one customer even finished their breakfast as the car was removed from the wall.

Despite that, she said two on her staff had a close call..

“They had just finished refilling everyone’s coffee” Phillips explained, “they had just left when the car had come through the wall… otherwise they would have been crushed.”

Two people did go to the hospital for minor injuries, but have since been released according to Phillips.

A phone call was made to Herrin Police for clarification and further details, but the call hadn’t been returned as of 9:30 pm on Sunday.
