Murphysboro police searching for suspect in armed robbery

MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) -

Murphysboro police are asking the public's help in locating a suspect in connection to an early morning robbery at a gas station Saturday.

On July 25, 2015 at 12:52 a.m. Murphysboro Police responded to 1937 Walnut Street (Huck's) in reference to an armed robbery. 

Upon arrival, Officers learned a male subject entered the business and demanded money. 

The man was reportedly armed with a handgun.

The suspect fled the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

During the robbery the suspect struck the clerk, causing minor injuries.

The clerk received medical attention at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6'0" tall, thin, with long hair, wearing a black hoodie, and blue or purple pants. 

The suspect was also apparently wearing a military type gas mask.
