Young musicians attend Southeast's Music Academy

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

It may not be too cool outside, but there's some cool music playing inside at the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus.

Some young musicians are tackling American fiddle styles at the class put on by the university's Music Academy.

Week-long programs also featured a beginning guitar class and a piano class.

Two of the young fiddlers explain why they enjoy trying something new.

"Most fiddle music, because I like classical music, but I really like fiddle music and I really don't know much about it," said Avery Petzoldt, fiddle student.

"In classical music, you have to use longer bow strokes, and trying to make them shorter and choppier has been difficult," said Clayton Bridgeman, fiddle student.

All that hard work will pay off though, when some of these fiddlers take the stage on Friday night at Jackson Homecomers.
