Naylor teacher to be honored for her commitment to education

NAYLOR, MO (KFVS) -

A Naylor, Missouri teacher will be honored for her commitment to public education on Monday, July 27.

Betty Abernathy has been involved in education for more than 60 years.

She began teaching in 1944 at a two-room school house.

She retired from full-time teaching in 1985, but remained active in her community and as a substitute teacher.

She also helped organize the Naylor Alumni Association.

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will recognize Abernathy and four other Missouri educators at a the 54th Annual Cooperative Conference for School Administrators in Columbia.

"For more than a half century, these men and women have worked to improve the lives of countless Missourians through education,” said Missouri Commissioner of Education Margie Vandeven.

More than 500 district leaders are expected to attend the luncheon.
