CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Students majoring in economics at Southeast Missouri State University have a new opportunity to help pay for college.

On July 22, Southeast announced The Rebecca and Larry Summary Scholarship in Economics had been established.

To be eligible, the student must be majoring in economics and carry a minimum 2.8 grade point average. The Department of Economics and Finance Scholarship committee will decide who receives the award.

According to the university, Rebecca and Larry Summary of Cape Girardeau gifted $5,000 to start the scholarship. Faculty and staff matched their gift, adding an additional $5,000.

Dr. Rebecca Summary started her career at Southeast in 1983 and serves as an economics professor and chair of the Department of Economics and Finance.

Larry Summary retired from Southeast in 1998. Prior to his retirement, he taught political science for 10 years and was the first director of the Office of Instructional Technology in the Center for Scholarship in Teaching and Learning.
