East Prairie, MO woman accused of drug possession, animal abuse

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

An East Prairie, Missouri woman was arrested after an animal abuse investigation by the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department.

Katherine Denise Gregory, 49, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and animal abuse. Her bond was set at $25,000.

According to Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore, the investigation began early on Sunday morning when a deputy was dispatched to the Eagles Landing subdivision for a report of animal abuse.

When deputies arrived, witnesses told them Gregory was abusing a dog. Deputies say they talked to Gregory and were able to substantiate the allegations of animal abuse.

Deputies say Gregory also had various drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Gregory was arrested and taken to the Mississippi County Detention Center.

According to deputies, the dog was not injured and was turned over to a more responsible party.
