CARTER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

A wreck on Friday night in Carter County injured a sheriff's deputy and another woman.

Jennifer Sutton, of Benton, Mo., was traveling East on Highway 60 en route to East Prairie.

Sutton was traveling alone but along with other family members in other cars.

Carter County Sheriff Rick Stevens says a structure fire was reported in Grandin, and dispatched two deputies to the scene, both traveling along Highway 60.

Sutton moved over to let authorities pass.

According to the highway patrol crash report, after a deputy passed her, Sutton then merged back into the lane where she and a different deputy then collided.

Both the deputy and Sutton were taken to area hospitals with injuries.

According to Missouri Highway Patrol Troop G, the deputy had minor injuries, and Sutton was taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital with moderate injuries

A family member of Sutton said she later was taken to a hospital in St. Louis and has substantial injuries including a fractured vertebrae, broken ribs, broken shoulder blade and facial injuries.

Sutton's brother said she is going to pull through, but has a long road ahead of her.
