1 dead, 1 airlifted after Franklin Co. motorcycle crash

FRANKLIN COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

A woman is dead after a motorcycle crash in Franklin County, Illinois.

It happened just south of the intersection of Route 37 and County Club Road.

West Frankfort Dispatch received a call just after 9 p.m. on Saturday of a motorcycle crash involving a tractor pulling a hay baler.

The 911 call reported the two people riding on the motorcycle were injured.

According to Franklin Co. Coroner Marty Leffler, the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed and hit the left, rear tire of the hay baler.

West Frankfort Police and Fire Department Ambulance responded to the scene.

According to Leffler, officers found the driver of the motorcycle, Steven Bailey, 50, of West Frankfort, with multiple injuries.

He was airlifted to an Evansville, Indiana hospital.

As of Monday evening, Bailey's family said he was going to have surgery on a broken ankle. They also said he had some head trauma, but was expected to make a full recovery.

Leffler said the passenger of the motorcycle, 45-year-old Tricia Ann Bailey, of St. Peters, Mo., was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. He said she died as a result of multiple blunt impact trauma.

The driver of the tractor, 57-year-old Danny McClerren, of West Frankfort, was not injured.

Illinois State Police are handling the investigation.
