New Jackson R-2 superintendent wants more communication

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -

Another school year is just around the corner and parents in the Jackson R-2 District can expect some changes from their new superintendent.

Dr. John Link has only been on the job a few weeks but says he's excited to be in Jackson.

He has two main goals he hopes to implement in the new school year: communication and security.

Jackson R-2 Superintendent Dr. John Link said it's been a warm welcome to the job.

"It's been tremendous the support I've received just trying to get my feet wet," said Dr. Link.

In his first few weeks at the helm of the school district, Dr. Link has been making the rounds.

"When I walk into the community, the buildings, I see a staff that has enormous amount of pride in what they're doing and as I venture into the community and listen to people and just kind of have conversations, there's so much pride in this community about their school system," said Dr. Link.

He said he understand that pride, but there are some changes he plans to implement to further success in and out of the classroom.

And it starts with an open line of communication.

"The first thing we're gonna do is we're gonna meet people where they are. Obviously social media is where it's at. We want to open up a district Facebook and Twitter account. We're in the process of trying to put together some electronic news that we can send out weekly or so with all the updates of what's going on."

That is Dr. Link's main goal.

He said he wants to answer questions and have hard conversations, but it's not his only goal.

He's also looking at ways to ensure students and teachers safety on school grounds.

"I think from a perspective of safety I just want to kind of review and make sure we're doing everything we can to keep our kids safe."

Dr. Link said those social media accounts should be up and running within a few weeks.
