Former IL band director found guilty of taking unauthorized photos of 14-year-old girl

CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) - A former high school band director has been convicted of unauthorized video recording.

Michael Todd Norrington, 41, of Carterville, was found guilty by a Jackson County jury on Friday, July 17.

According to Jackson County State's Attorney Michael C. Carr, the evidence showed that on June 11, 2014, Norrington knowingly used his cell phone to take photographs under or through the clothing of a 14-year-old girl, without the consent of the girl or her mother, for the purpose of seeing the girl's body or undergarments.

The incident happened while the girl was shopping at a retail store in Carbondale.

Due to the age of the victim, this is a Class 3 felony, with a sentencing range of two to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. He will be eligible for probation.

A sentencing date was set for Sept. 15.

The Carbondale Police Department investigated. Assistant State's Attorney Casey Bloodworth was responsible for the prosecution of this case.
