2 earthquakes shake Heartland within nine hours

The U.S. Geological Survey reports two separate earthquakes happened in the Heartland late Wednesday and early Thursday morning.

The first was a 2.6 quake that occurred around 10:57 p.m. Wednesday. The reported epicenter was about 10 miles northwest of Mound City, Illinois, and 14 miles southeast of Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Then another 2.5 earthquake occurred around 7:21 a.m. Thursday, with the epicenter reported about 3 miles south of Lilbourn, Missouri.

No damage has been reported.
