FULTON COUNTY, KY (KFVS)

The Fulton County Kentucky Sheriff's Office says its K-9 Kwinta died suddenly on Wednesday of what appears to be heat exhaustion.
Kwinta as a 5-year-old Belgian Malinois who started service with the Fulton County Sheriff's Office in September of 2013.
The Fulton County Sheriff's Office issued the following statement on Facebook:

"With great sadness, the Fulton County Sheriff's Office suffered a sudden and unexpected loss of one of our own. K9 Kwinta died of what appeared to be heat exhaustion today.

"K9 Kwinta was a 5 year old Belgian Malinois when she started her service with the Fulton County Sheriff's Office on 09/09/2013. Throughout her career she assisted in countless narcotic investigations not only with the Fulton County Sheriff Department but other local agencies. K9 Kwinta was a tremendous asset to the Fulton County Sheriff's Office.

"Deputy Johnny Smith was K9 Kwinta's handler during her service with the Fulton County Sheriff's Office. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers."
