Olive Branch cyclist killed in Route 3 crash identified

ALEXANDER COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Family members have identified the man involved in a deadly bicycle vs. car crash.

Jarod Shumaker , 37, is from Olive Branch.

Police say Shumaker was traveling north on Route 3, about three miles south of Route 127 in Alexander County, when he was hit by the right side-mirror of a Buick Century.

Shumaker lost control of the bicycle and and was hit by a Toyota Corolla traveling behind the Buick.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Buick was ticketed for improper over-taking of a bicycle.

Services for Shumaker include visitation from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14 at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15 at the funeral home, followed by internment in Olive Branch Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Tour de Shawnee and will be accepted at the funeral home.
