KENTUCKY (KFVS) - The Kentucky Transportation of Cabinet has waived certain highway restrictions for out-of-state utility vehicles traveling nationally.
This is in anticipation of severe weather in the forecast for this week and its potential to cause damage and widespread power outages.
Secretary Mike Hancock issued the emergency declaration on Monday, July 13.
"Lifting these restrictions allows crews to work more expeditiously in restoring power to homes and businesses across the nation," he said.
The order exempts a driver's hours of service limitations, suspends registration requirements and waives permit fees for overweight/overdimensional vehicles. Drivers will also not be required to stop at weigh stations.
All other safety requirements will remain in effect for drivers.
The declaration expires on July 23.
