Illinois percussionist's career threatened by paralyzing condition

COBDEN, IL (KFVS) - It's a big week for an award-winning southern Illinois musician who was recently selected as a semifinalist for an international competition.

Kevin Lucas performed at Star View Vineyards in Cobden Sunday afternoon as he passed the time waiting for results from an MRI he had done on Thursday.

He sought medical help after he says his arms went limp in the middle of a performance last week.

He said until he finds out what's wrong, all he can do is take things one day at a time.

"Life is short," Lucas said, "If there's something you want to do, do it. Do it now, and don't wait. Don't put your dreams on hold, because you might not have tomorrow, you might not have next week, you might not have an hour from now."

Lucas traveled to California earlier in 2015 to perform at a red carpet event for the Grammys in February.

In his 34 year-long career, he's won the 2009 People's Choice award in London, and the "Kevin Lucas Orchestra was named 'Breakthrough Artist of the Year.' By New Music Weekly in 2008.

Results from the MRI will be released this week.
