SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Rescue crews were called out to help a driver swept off a road by floodwater early Thursday morning in Cape Girardeau County.

The emergency call went out around 4:40 a.m. that a person was trapped in a car swept off of County Road 264 just south of Delta.

By 5:00 a.m. dispatchers say crews had reached the person in the car and were getting them to safety.

Dispatchers say the driver was safe and that there was only about a foot of water on the road, but that is enough to damage a car.

Water remains covering County Road 264.
