Crews pull man out of Mississippi River

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Police and fire crews in Cape Girardeau, Missouri pulled a man out of the Mississippi River on Wednesday evening.

According to police, the man was pulled from the river and taken into custody. He was taken to an area hospital for a mental evaluation.

Police say the situation will be reviewed to see if any charges will apply.

They say they got a report of a man acting suspiciously near the casino. When they got there, they say he had a knife.

They say the man then ended up on the river side of the floodwall and jumped in.

Crews were calling out to the man and to try to get him out of the water.

He voluntarily got into a boat piloted by the Cape Girardeau Fire Department and was arrested by officers who were on the boat. This was near the Scott City Port Authority around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday.

No charges have been filed at this time.
