Chicago man sentenced for cocaine delivery in Jackson Co.

JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A Chicago man has been sentenced in Jackson County Circuit Court for delivery of a controlled substance.

Anton J. Williams, 35, was convicted of delivery of a controlled substance after pleading guilty on June 23. He was sentenced to serve six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, followed by a term of two years of mandatory supervised release.

According to Jackson County State's Attorney Michael C. Carr, the charges are from an incident that occurred on or about Feb. 12, when officers from the Carbondale Police Department Drug Task Force were working with a confidential source who said he could buy cocaine from Williams.

On the same day, the confidential source was searched and no contraband was found. He was equipped with a hidden audio/video recording device and provided with money to make the purchase.

He met with Williams and bought 3.4 grams of powder cocaine from him.

The investigation was conducted by the Carbondale Police Department. Assistant State's Attorney Mark Hamrock was responsible for the prosecution of this case.
