West Frankfort Fire Department gets life-saving upgrades

WEST FRANKFORT, IL (KFVS) - The West Frankfort Fire Department has upgraded its emergency vehicles with equipment that will help first responders to treat life threatening issues during emergency patient transports.

The department's three ambulances and one fire engine will now be equipped with Advanced Life Support equipment.

The chief said getting the upgrades has been a process that's taken time and money. The ALS units added two live saving skills and nine medications, and will allow first responders to treat more serious conditions they couldn't treat before.

"It took several years of training and hard work for our staff to obtain their paramedic licenses," Allen said in a statement. "Then we had to purchase additional equipment and medications, and pass a state inspection."

"Our department truly cares about our community and we wanted to be able to do all we could for those who call upon us for assistance," Allen said in a statement.

The new equipment will upgrade the department from Intermediate Life Support to an ALS unit.
