Protecting yourself against an attacker

Protecting yourself against an attacker

(KFVS) - A woman was recently mugged near Busch Stadium following a Cardinals game.

Would you know what to do if that happened to you?

We went to talk with some experts.

Mike Simmons with Simmons Family Martial Arts says attackers typically hit women in the head.

A quick blow will knock her off her feet.

So if you see someone coming toward you, take one arm and cover your head, then use your free hand to push the attacker's face.

At that point, run.

There are some things you can do to make yourself less of a target.

Don't go out by yourself.

Don't walk with a phone in your hand. If you're distracted you may not notice someone coming at you.

And be sure to yell for help. Be vocal and that may scare the attacker off before help can come.
