Mt. Vernon man arrested on pot charges

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - Mt. Vernon authorities say they've arrested a man in connection to the possession and sale of marijuana.

On July 1, members of the Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff's Department High Risk Team executed a search warrant at 401 Jordan Street in Mt. Vernon.

The Search warrant was obtained with the assistance of the Jefferson County State's Attorney's Office and was signed by the Honorable Judge Jo Beth Weber after investigations by the MVPD/JCSO Narcotics Division developed information that cannabis was being sold from the residence.

After the residence was secured, a search by Narcotics Division detectives resulted in the recovery of approximately six pounds of cannabis, heroin, digital scales, and packaging materials.

Additionally several thousand dollars in property including televisions, car rims, stereo equipment and a vehicle were seized as items believed to have been purchased with drug proceeds.

One person, Desmond Taylor, 34, was located at the residence.

Taylor was arrested and jailed at the Jefferson County Justice Center on a charge of possession with intent to deliver between 30 and 500 grams of cannabis.

After completion of the investigation, arrest warrants will be requested for three other persons who were not at the residence at the time of the search.

Taylor is considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
