Man accused of attacking woman at Paducah hospital, running into traffic to avoid police

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - A McCracken County man is accused of assaulting a woman and running into traffic on Lone Oak Road to avoid police on Sunday, June 28 at around 5:17 p.m.

Joseph T. Cerullo, 20, was charged with violating an EPO/DVO, fourth degree assault, second degree assault and first degree fleeing or evading police (on foot).

According to Paducah police, officers were called to the Subway restaurant inside Lourdes Hospital. They say a 22-year-old woman told officers that Cerullo went into the restaurant in violation of an emergency protective order, allegedly jumped over the counter and began hitting her in the face and head.

Police say a bystander told them he tried to stop Cerullo from leaving and Cerullo allegedly pulled a knife and made slashing motions toward him.

An officer saw Cerullo outside of the hospital and ordered him to stop, but said Cerullo ran into Lone Oak Road. At that moment, police say Cerullo's grandmother pulled up and Cerullo got into the car with her.

Police say Cerullo had apparently called her after leaving the restaurant.

Cerullo was arrested and police say he had allegedly taken an unknown quantity of drugs before the incident, so he was admitted to the hospital.
