CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A wanted man was taken into custody at a Cape Girardeau, Missouri motel on Friday evening.

Officers had their guns trained on his hotel room door when David Rains walked out and surrendered peacefully.

Authorities say they received a tip that Rains was at the Holiday Lodge on Kingshighway.

Just before 6 p.m., officers and SWAT members surrounded the motel where he was believed to be hiding. About an hour later, he was taken into custody.

The 35-year-old fugitive was wanted after failing to appear in court on multiple charges. The hunt to find him heated up after the sheriff's office said he could attempt to harm himself of others.

They say he has a history of drug abuse and is known to be violent.

Rains is in jail and will not face further charges.
